Arca has developed an extensive and detailed methodology for permanent CO₂ removal using ex-situ mineralization of ultramafic mine tailings. It describes how Arca implements its acceleration technology and measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) techniques to enable quantifiable, reportable, and verifiable carbon removal, based on research conducted in the lab and validated in the field.
The methodology outlines:
- How CO₂ is measured as it moves from the atmosphere into mine tailings
- How solid carbonate mineral formation is confirmed
- How net carbon removal is calculated and verified over time
It is the first mineralization-based methodology to be validated as compliant with ISO 14064-2:2019, following independent third-party review by Det Norske Veritas (DNV.)
